9 years of WordPress.com

I got this note the other day reminding me that I started using WordPress.com 9 years ago.

The friend I was helping set up his site still uses the same theme, so you can see the first post almost exactly the same way it looked in 2009.

I’ve learned a lot about writing for the web and the internet in general since then, but through the whole journey WordPress.com was with me.  I wrote about how much I loved my WordPress.com site in 2011, even though everyone knew “real” websites were self hosted.

I never expected when I started this journey that I’d work for Automattic someday, but I am thankful everyday that this is where I’ve ended up.
